Open Question: My HD tv won't go to the HD input that it's suppose to go to with my xbox 360. PLEASE HELP!!!!?

I have a vizio plasma screen tv. I hooked up all of the write HD cables for my 360 to the tv and switched the switch on the 360's cord thing to HDTV. I go to the 360 guide and open up preferences and try to switch to 720 or 1080i which is what the tv is suppose to go up to but it says no signal.
